Mariscos or Frutos del Mar

Spanish Tapas Ingredients

For your convenience we have collected this glossary of tapas ingredients and Spanish terms. On this page we will collect seashells like Mejillones (mussels), Almejas and Navajas. These Mariscos or "Frutos del Mar" are rooted very deep in Spanish culture.

"Navajas" are what we know as Razor Shells or Razor Clams, also Razor Fish, those long, knife-shaped sea shells:

In Spain, Navajas are often prepared "a la plancha": Fried in a thin layer of oil in a skillet, grillplate or skottelbraai, with some salt and pepper, until they are just done. With some lemon or lime, of course.
